Ty joins us from Dothan, Alabama, where he successfully operated the Ty Andersen Golf Academy for the past 16 years at Highland Oaks Golf Course on the renowned Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. With over 25 years of full-time teaching experience, Ty is a Life Member of the PGA of America.

Before pursuing his career as a golf professional, Ty served his country for more than 23 years as an officer in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Boston College, a Master’s in Business from Central Michigan University, and the equivalent of a second master’s degree in Military Education from Air University.

Over the years, Ty has established and operated successful teaching academies in Florida, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Alabama—and is now excited to return to Florida. His teaching philosophy is built on simple, results-driven methods that have helped students at every level, from beginners to club champions to professionals. His reputation as an instructor is highly respected within the PGA community, where many professionals have turned to him for guidance and teaching innovations designed to help “Grow the Game.”

For more than a decade, Ty served on the PGA Presidents Growth of the Game Council. His Kids in Schools Golf Program has introduced the game to over 200,000 children across five states. The program was adopted by the Dixie PGA Section as its official “Growth of the Game” initiative, recognized by PGA National as one of five models capable of nationwide implementation, and even featured on the Golf Channel for a year.

Ty’s efforts have been widely recognized. He has received numerous honors, including the President’s Plaque, Junior Leader of the Year, the Horton Smith Award, and the Bill Strausbaugh Award. He has also been repeatedly named one of U.S. Kids Golf’s Top 50 Instructors, and today is one of only 125 professionals worldwide to hold the designation of Masters Kids Teaching Professional. Ty often says that his work with junior golfers has made him an even stronger instructor for his adult students.
